Happy Birthday, Raegan Kendall!

Every year, we celebrate Thanksgiving and Raegan's birthday together at great-Grandpa and Grandma Tucker's house at the ocean.

We drove down to the beach for a special autumn birthday walk. It was delightfully misty and drizzly ~ the surf was invisible until we were almost in it!

Then back to Grandma's house for homemade chocolate cupcakes (Raegan's request) and presents.

And special turkey treats.

Some more sugar from great-Grandma.

Ahhh! Four years, now, under her belt! =)

Vintage table runner

I am delighted to have inherited some old table and bed linens from my great-Grandmother. Most are tattered and worn, but they are so dear, and the blemishes just seem to tell stories of loving use. This one is adorning my Thanksgiving table ~ the colors are so warm and fallish.

Blessings

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. ~Psalm 95:2,3

Meet Lloyd

Our 9 year-old adopted orange Tabby. His first meal at our house was served in a Lloyd's Barbecue tub; hence, his name. It suits him. His favorite toys are batteries and baby socks to bat across the floor. We love our pudgy man.

Dinner and dancing

What's for dinner?

Greenhouse Chili
*************
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. beef stew meat
2 diced tomatoes
1 diced onion
2 diced hot chili peppers
2 T minced garlic
2-3 T chili powder
2 cans tomato sauce
1 can each of black beans and kidney beans
1 can fire-roasted tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste

Brown the ground beef and stew meat in olive oil with salt and pepper. Throw everything into a large crock-pot, turn it on "low" and forget about it for 8 hours or so.

Mix up a box of Jiffy corn muffins (add a couple handfuls of corn kernels to the batter before baking.)

Turn on some big band music and enjoy your feast together!

Florida is calling

I'm really missing hot, humid Florida right about now. My husband and I used to take trips to Florida at this time of the year, usually to celebrate our anniversary. We went to Universal Studios in California for our honeymoon, and thought we'd try Orlando's theme parks, too. Now we want to live there...at least part of the year.

But that was all BC (before children). We try not to travel very far any more than we have to with two small ones in cramped quarters on planes, trains, or automobiles...when they would much rather hop around the vehicle, instead of being strapped in...sharing all kinds of "knowledge" with those around them...the smallest expecting 24-hour dining (nursing) despite strangers right at our elbows...

How lazy life was then!

What perfect timing! We didn't know there was to be a launch from Cape Canaveral on the day we drove down to the beach to see the Atlantic. What a rare opportunity!

We simply had to visit SeaWorld.

I was so excited when we happened upon The Holy Land Experience. The buildings are beautiful, there's a museum with ancient Scrolls and Bibles, and there are plays about biblical events.

There are even camels! Isn't he so sweet?! If it wasn't for that hump, I think he'd make his escape under the gate!

Bird feeders

We decided to make some cool weather treats for all our little feathered friends.

Looks like the peanut butter passes inspection. The test required quite a LARGE sample!

The bird seed seems to be pretty tasty, too. That's right, she's eating it...

Do you think the little birdies will like these?

My reading nook

...or napping, or sun-bathing...Who could pass up this delightful spot for any pleasant pastime? It's so warm and bright here, being under one of three very generous skylights in our house. The two largest are 8 by 8'. The presence of these portals of sunlight is one of the reasons we called our home The Greenhouse. Plants thrive in the balmy glow, as you can see by the picture of two of my oxygen-releasing friends. Those who breathe oxygen thrive as well. The other reasons for naming our home as we did: I love the color green~for everything; we're really into the whole organic thing; and we do have a tiny greenhouse on the premises (more on that later).

Grab your favorite volume and a cozy blanket, and soak up the rays.

Thank you, veterans!

We remember and honor each and every one who has served and is currently serving our country. We truly thank you for your great sacrifice.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

When does life begin?

These precious little beans can tell you...

For Thou didst form my inward parts;
Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Thy works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from Thee,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth.
Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Thy book they were all written,
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

Our family is growing!

OK, Grandmas and Grandpas, settle down. What I mean is, we've become the proud sponsors of this adorable little man. His name is Kener and he lives in Honduras with his mama and papa and big sister. We've been supporting his family for a few months now and have received letters and updates on his family and progress. Kener's mother writes the letters to us and they are long and full of information, and she hand-illustrates each page! They are such a joy to read. It is SO exciting to be a part of the lives of these sweet people. I recommend sponsoring a child through any of the great programs available. It will not only bless the receiving family, but truly enrich the lives of the sponsors!

The Lord is faithful

Searching for hope, this is where my reading took me:

"Do you not fear me?" declares the Lord, "Do you not tremble in My presence? For I have placed the sand as a boundary for the sea, an eternal decree, so it cannot cross over it; though the waves toss, yet they cannot prevail, though they roar they cannot cross over it."

"...Let us now fear the Lord our God, who gives rain in its season, both the autumn rain and the spring rain, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of the harvest." Jeremiah 5:22&24
